Major management entrance tests:
The common admission test (CAT) conducted by the IIM's is perhaps one of the toughest exams in the world where over 2 lakh + eligible candidates vie for about 2000 seats . other common entrance tests are the XAT, JMET, SNAP, ATMA, MAT and various stste cets . institutes like IIFT, FMS , NMIMS and IRMA conduct their own entrance tests.
Common Admission Test (CAT):
The admission season starts around the month of july , when the cat bulletin is issued. The entrance test is conducted in November - December. The results of the written exams are out by mid January and the GD/Interview screening is held from February to March .
There are over 80+ B schools other than IIMs using the Cat scores for admissions to their courses . For institutes , other than IIMs , using the CAT scores , the student has to apply for B school specific prospectus separately in addition to the cat bulletin.
Xavier Admission Test(XAT)
The Xavier Labour Relations Institute(XLRI), Jamshedpur conducts the XAT. The advertisement for the application form appears in late august. The entrance exam is usually held on the first Sunday of January and the interviews are in the month of march. There are over 40 B - schools other than XLRI that use the XAT scores for the admissions to their courses.
Joint Management Entrance Test(JMET)
The JMET is the entrance test for the admission into management schools set up by the Indian institute of Technologies (IITs) and Indian institute of science, Banglore (IISC). The test is usually conducted in December.
Management Aptitude Test(MAT)
MAT is usually conducted 4 times in a year in February, may,September and December. Over three hundred schools across India accept MAT scores. MAT does not put Minimum percentage criterion for eligibility. Usually , the minimum percentage requirement in graduation is different from different B schools that accept MAT scores.
AIMA test for management Admissions(ATMA)
The All India Management Associations conducts the ATMA in the second week of February. A number of B schools use the ATMA score for Shortlisting Candidates.
State Common Entrance Tests(CET)
The most popular state CET is the MAH-cet of Maharastra. The Advertisement for CET usually appears in mid-December. It is generally conducted in the third week of February and GD/Interviews are conducted in June Other popular CETs are the PGCET of Karnataka, The GCET of Gujarat, ICET of Andhra Pradesh and TNCET of Tamilnadu . Mostly , these are conducted in MAY/JUNE.
Indian Institute of foreign Trade(IIFT)
The Indian Institute of foreign Trade, Delhi, conducts its own entrance test in the fourth week of November and the interview is in the month of February/March. Few other institutes of foreign trade also use the IIFT test to short list candidates.
Faculty of Management Studies(FMS)
The FMS entrance exam is in January. FMS Delhi releases its advertisement for forms and pplications in September. The deadline for submitting these applications is by November end . The selection process also has an extempore speech to be given by the candidate.
Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA)
Institute of rural management is India's premier institute for a course in Rural Management set up in 1979. The test is held in the first week of December and the interviews are held in March.
Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS)
Tata institute of social sceiences , Mumbai offers an M.A in personal Management and Industrial Relations, and is one of the most sought after programs for a career in Human Resources management. The test as well as the personal interview is in the month of june
Narsee monjee Institute of management studies (NMIMS)
NMIMS conducts its own entrance test called NMAT (Narsee monjee Aptitude Test) in the month of December with the interviews being held in the second week of February.
